Brockwell Wood is only 7 miles away from Newcastle upon Tyne in 26 acres of ancient woodland, offering visitors a tranquil, yet accessible retreat from the hurly-burly of modern life.
This campsite is for those who want a back to nature experience - we don't have shops, toilets and showers at the site, but we do offer real back-to-basics camping. You are welcome to light a fire responsibly in your ready made fire pit, clearing up afterwards. Remember the bush craft code: "Take nothing, leave nothing, leave no trace".
Campers need to be aware that this is the nearest to wilderness we can achieve so close to the city - this means that you may have to drive rough tracks through trees to get to your pitch. You have to take responsibility for where you choose to drive and accept that you are responsible subsequently for any damage to your vehicle.
We will provide you with a map to find your way and a spade to bury human waste. You can fill your water bottles at the farmyard a few minutes walk from the nearest part of the wood.
There is now very little dry wood from fallen and felled trees to be found, though you are welcome to search so long as you don't damage anything growing. We now sell sacks of logs at £6, offcuts of softwood at £4 and kindling at £2 as many campers have found it impossible to source enough fuel for their fires from the wood itself.
Dogs are welcome if kept under reasonable control.
The nearest country pub is The Black Horse at Barlow one mile to the West where you can get food, real ale and the country pub experience. This pub is not always open unfortunately! The Black Bull at Blaydon is only a delightful walk away down the historic Blaydon Burn and is both people and dog friendly with some very nice beer but no food. The Rose and Crown in Winlaton 10 minutes walk from the house is very reliable and does good, solid pub food. It's also dog and family friendly.
The nearest shops are also in Winlaton, just a little way up the hill. I'm a Coop supporter myself so avoid the nightmare of Blay
