The Dragons Back Camp site is located in the heart of The Black Mountains, with beautiful views all around. Although we are in a fairly remote location, we are easily accessible by road. Our pub next door, serves real ale and home cooked food, with a lovely large log fire and wood burning stove. The camp site is open all year round. We also have bunkhouses and B&B accommodation on site.
Campsite
Our campsite is only available for campers eating their evening meals and drinking in the pub (with the exception of DofE groups).
We have two clean loos, 1 good free shower,( the shower is hot only when the bunkhouse is occupied), great views, our pub next door (with good food, real ales and a warm welcome), and direct access to the Black Mountains – what more could you want?
You can only book the campsite by phone.
N.B. WE DO NOT PROVIDE BREAKFAST FOR CAMPERS. The nearest place to purchase breakfast is the cafe at Cwmdu.
Our small campsite is in a dark skies area, we keep lighting to a minimum, to reduce light pollution and ensure you are not disturbed by it. Please use a torch at night. Our campsite is terraced with a sloping grassed bank, sensible footwear is a must, and please use caution when walking about the campsite, especially after dark.
Shepherds Hut
Our Shepherds Hut is fully insulated, with power points, electric light and heating, it sleeps up to two people, sharing a double bed. It is located on the edge of our campsite, with cracking views of The Black Mountains
The Shepherds hut has it’s own private decked area, where you can sit out and enjoy marvellous views all around. You can watch the sun rise over the mountains whilst laid in bed. The Shepherd Hut comes with coffee and tea making facilities and has access to a fully featured self catering kitchen.
The Shepherds Hut also has it’s own private bathroom, with large step in shower, toilet and basin, – which is centrally heated, towels and bedding are provided.
Bunkhouses
Our bunkhouses are housed in a traditional stone barn some 400 years old. Located at over 1,000 feet above sea level in the rural heart of the Black Mountains, which make up the Eastern part of the Brecon Beacons National Park, there are spectacular views of the surrounding hills. It’s also right next to our pub, The Dragons Back.
The bunkhouses are divided into 3 bunkrooms, which are 3 separate totally private and lockable dormitories with full sized bunk beds, table and chairs, with coffee and tea making facilities and en-suite bathrooms. Bunk 12 contains 6 bunks (sleeping space for 12), with 2 en-suite wet-rooms, bunk 10 contains 5 bunk beds (sleeping 10), with 2 en-suite wet-rooms. Upstairs sleeps 6 ( bunk 6 ), with it’s own en-suite shower room. Each bunkroom or bunk house has it’s own individual access, the bunkrooms can be rented separately or interconnected for larger groups. The Bunkhouses are basic but clean accommodation, ideal for stag groups etc.
