Stubcroft Campsite is situated on an environmentally friendly working sheep farm close to sandy beaches, Chichester Harbour and the South Downs. The peaceful private lanes and grounds surrounding the farm make it an ideal holiday for families and couples wishing to escape the pressures of modern life.
The farm is a sustainable, environmentally friendly family farm and the campsite is run in keeping with that ethos. The site is set in a level paddock nearby. The camping field has been planted with new wildlife conservation hedges and trees planted to provide more shelter and privacy. There is a wealth of wildlife on the farm with over 72 species of birds identified; deer, hedgehogs, foxes, rabbits, rare butterflies and much more.
Our long awaited new environmentally friendly Amenity Block is now open! The block features plenty of brand new showers, toilets, washbasins, washing up sinks and even hairdryers and underfloor heating. There is also a larger reception area and a comprehensive campsite shop.
The block has been designed to high environmental standards and features solar hot water heating, an environmentally friendly biodigester, low energy LED lighting and a building design that is energy efficient and also maximises the use of natural light. Other features such as Solar Photovoltaic Panels will be installed in the near future.
The campsite shop sells a wide range of groceries, toiletries, cold drinks, ice creams and general camping supplies. Campfires & BBQs are catered for with logs, kindling & BBQ charcoal, locally produced sausages, bacon, beef burgers and our ever popular family Barbecue packs. Our own honey from the farm and occasional seasonal produce from the Kitchen Garden are also available.
We offer a mobile phone & gadget charging service in reception to charge mobiles, iPods/iPads, computers, tablets and other small gadgets. We do not charge for this service but ask that you put a donation in our “Sightsavers” charity box. This can be as little or as much as you want, we are grateful for any donation (however small) and it all goes to help people afflicted with blindness and other sight problems in third world countries.
Stubcroft is uniquely situated in an area known since medieval times as "God's Pocket" for its warm, sunny location and sandy beaches. It is in the lee of the Isle of Wight, which provides a mild, dry local microclimate with one of the highest average sunshine hours on the UK mainland. Often the weather passes over us and is frequently much better than forecasted
for elsewhere in the UK. It is not unusual to be dry & sunny here even when raining in London, the home counties or even either side in Portsmouth or Brighton. Our site is well drained, sheltered by attractive hedges and has a friendly atmosphere making it an ideal camping location.
Near the campsite are some of the best sandy beaches on the South Coast. Bracklesham Bay is a long curving sandy bay that runs from Selsey Bill in the East to the famous sand dunes at West Wittering that forms the entrance to Chichester Harbour in the West. Bracklesham Bay and East Wittering with their villages, cafes, restaurants & beaches are within walking distance from the campsite. You can explore the quiet lanes of Chichester Harbour, the Salterns Way cycle path, discover West Wittering beaches & sand dunes of East Head, ride along the Canal towpath to Chichester or across the “Itchy Bosom” ferry from Itchenor to the picturesque village of Bosham.
If you want a change from the beaches & harbour, the attractive & historic city of Chichester provides good shopping and a wide range of places to eat set against the rolling backdrop of the South Downs National Park. Within a 20-30 minute car drive lie some of the South’s best attractions & days out including Arundel Castle, Fishbourne Roman Palace, The Weald & Downland Open Air Museum, Portsmouth Historic Docks & HMS Victory, Tangmere Aviation Museum, Amberley Working Museum, National Trust properties at Uppark & Petworth house and much more. Please see our “Local attractions page” for more details.
From the A27 Chichester bypass take the A286 south of Chichester towards the Witterings & Bracklesham. After 3-4 miles there is a long straight road through Birdham village. Fork left onto the B2198 at a mini-roundabout by a Total garage signposted to East Wittering & Bracklesham Bay. After approx. half a mile, just past the Bell Pub there is a S bend. Turn right on the apex of the second bend into a little lane called Tile Barn Lane. Go 200yds, over two speed humps, then turn left before the houses onto a long, gravel farm lane. After approximately half a mile you will find the campsite on the right hand side, just before the farmhouse and barns. Please check in at the farmhouse on arrival. The nearest beaches are approximately 15-20 minute walk or a short cycle ride down the private lanes or 2-3 minutes by car.
If arriving by car, please follow the instructions and, try not to rely on GPS or SatNav devices, as these can lead you down lanes that are unsuitable for vehicles. However, if your SatNav/GPS device has a "Via" function, you can enter 'PO20 8PJ' via 'Tile Barn Lane' which should bring you to us.
